Read Only on Text Area

When using a smart table lookup to populate a number of fields for display only reasons such as instructions for a particular asset type inspection or guideline etc, I would like the ability to have the values returned in a read only mode (not modifiable).

This works fine for text fields (which has the read only flag) however not for text areas which no longer have the flag. This is required when the value returned from the smart table search is too large for a text field to display correctly and therefore needs to be a text area.
